Tony Barthel and I cover what we know (and don’t know) about the 2025 Ramcharger 1500 Plug-In Hybrid EV pickup truck.
Dear Readers,
Tony and I had a party last night discussing the 2025 Ramcharger 1500 pickup truck, and you were invited! If you didn’t see us live, you can watch what happened below.

Where to watch…
Watch it on YouTube HERE

Skip ahead to 9:15 if you want to avoid the warm up intro…
Please make your comments below. If this type of truck works as advertised and was affordable, would you consider purchasing one?
Let’s play safe out there… Mike

Great webcast. Thanks Mike! Watched the whole thing. The 2025 1500 Ramcharger sounds like a game changer. Once this comes out, everyone will want one and its competitors will copy it. It sounds almost too good to be true. I’ll bet it will be very expensive at least until there is competition. You guys also talked about the F-150 power post hybrid. I’m still amazed at how it’s charging system works. If the engine cycles every 5 min when suppling 7.2 kW, as Mike said he remembered, and we assume it charges its 1.5 kW-hr battery through a 50% charge-discharge cycle, its 35 kW generator must be capable of supplying 0.75 kW-hr in 5 min or 1/12 hour or 12 x 0.75 = 9 kW in order to recharge the battery plus 7.2kW to supply the load! That’s 16.2 kW, Wow! Given that the 1.5 kW hybrid battery works at 450 V, the gene current would need to be 16.2kW/450V = 36A. I guess this seems reasonable if the traction motor is 35kW, it would be capable of outputting up to 78A at 450 V. I camped with a friend who owns one of these beasts and hooked my trailer up to it to recharged my battery. It did it with ease but my rig was only drawing less than 1kW.
Thanks…
I think that some version of a PHEV (Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicle)with an on-board inverter/generator is the best new technology for an eRV tow vehicle until battery chemistry and the national charging infrastructure catches up. This is getting interesting!
Yes, I would buy it.
Looking forward to seeing how well this truck operates in the real world. It certainly seems to have the potential to be a real game changer.
If I built my own truck from scratch, that’s exactly how I would design the power train. But we shall see how well it works in the real world.
